Metaballs

The lava lamp of the demoscene, glowing blobs that flow together and split apart. Push the goo around with your pointer and drop new bubbles with a click.

Metaballs brings back the hypnotic organic blobs built from a scalar field. For every pixel the field sums the pull of each ball, and wherever it crosses the threshold the surface appears, so two blobs drifting close melt into one with a stretching neck before pulling apart again. The whole field is evaluated in real time and mapped through a colour ramp, giving four distinct looks. LAVA glows warm like a lamp on a dark shelf, CHROME wraps the blobs in polished metal with bright silver rims, NEON turns them into glowing bubbles with darker cores and GOO oozes toxic green. Your pointer becomes an extra ball you can shove through the mass, and every click drops a fresh bubble that rises up and merges with the rest.
